SANNI

Sanni's debut album PhotoPhobia (in production) addresses several fields of the trans*existence in our society: structural loneliness, affectional exclusion, emotional and physical abuse, as well as transcendental exchanges with one's own body and the environment surrounding it.
She will present an introductory show, explaining the philosophical and political background of the most representative songs from her album and then performing them live.

ANTI-CORPOS

Anti-Corpos is a hardcore feminist band from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Don´t miss the chance to see them live one more time!"The original goal of a genre like hardcore punk has always been to change things, fight injustices, and give a voice to those who are oppressed. However, it feels like with time, the hardcore scene has become a niche built for white males, with many live shows turning into a gym for violent people, a phenomenon that has inevitably pushed others away from the scene and from its great potential. It’s in this context that the importance of Anti-Corpos, who define themselves a feminist lesbian hardcore band, becomes evident. They epitomize the original spirit of hardcore.

Anti-Corpos are from São Paulo, Brazil, and they might be the angriest band you’ll ever hear. No triggered double-kicks, pompous guitar riffs, or carefully faked screams. Only real and necessary anger. Their urgency is evident in the strident vocals of singer Rebeca Domiciano: she needs to scream and to get things off her chest. It feels like her voice, while refusing to precisely follow her band mates fast-paced tempos, can actually make a difference.

Their latest full-length, released in 2015, is a great example of political hardcore. It’s titled ‘Forma Prática de Luta’ (‘Practical Way Of Fighting’) and contains eight short and intense tracks that talk about police brutality, patriarchal abuse, and finding ways to resist to any kind of oppression. The lyrics are in Portuguese, but they barely need to be translated, seeing how energetic and heartfelt everything sounds. In their live shows, this anger is even amplified while male chauvinist violence is not tolerated. It’s what hardcore should simply be like, now more than ever."

Escolas de Luta (Struggle Schools)

In 2005 highschool students occupied their schools against the governor decided to close some of them. In one month, with the help of Internet and with the support of grassroots social movements, occupied around 200 schools around the whole state of SP. Through it they got the attentions of the media and of the governor, who revoked it. This process was very intense and the way it happened didn't only renewed and reafirmed social movements stategies in general, but also expanded the themes and ways of organizing. Creating a a heterogeneous and plural group, in which many voices had (conquered) its spaces, brought up new demands to the movements at the same time that created a broad debate that intended to be more horizontal.

       AUTONOMOUS QUEER RESISTANCE

Fighting/ Martial Arts skills and experience sharing for resistance, self-defense, confidence, fitness and fun.

This is a horizontal crew meet-up and practice that aims to share queer experiences of resistance, self-defense and fighting skills. All of us have experienced or practiced in different levels the need to self-defend, resist and/or fight for our own safety as well as our communities, friends and partners.

Who:
This group and space are for folks who identify as queer in a broad sense of the term. It can be regarding sexuality and identity but also if you identify as queer regarding other hegemonic power structures/norms that are oppressive and marginalizing like race, class, work, language, etc. For example being POC, latin-american portuguese/spanish speaker, sex worker, neuro-diverse, not-fit. We are body positive.

The meetings and workshops are to share what we've experienced and learnt from each other from our life experiences, street resistance, conflicts, tensions, fighting and martial arts training. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of martial arts just have to be willing to practice, share and listen to resistance experiences and bare in mind that this might not be at all times very easy for you or for others to deal with. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to either share or just practice to the level of comfort/challenge/sharing that they themselves choose to.

What to bring/wear:
WE NEED TO BORROW: pads and focus gloves!
People are encouraged to bring (and share!) gloves, bandages and other safety/fighting equipment!! People are also encouraged to bring fruits, nuts, cookies, chips, juice and WATER). Wear whatever you feel comfortable fighting/exercising in!
